Happy Friday yogis! I'm excited to debut Pose Tutorials. These are specialized, ten minute maximum videos that delve into some of the intricacies of our yoga poses. This week, I'm focusing on Chaturanga and King Pigeon. Both are challenging, both require focus, and both lead to new places in our practice.
Chaturanga is the foundation for many (if not most) arm balances, handstands, and forearm stands (can you say triceps!); however, so often we cheat this pose because it's hard, awkward, and not very fun. As you work with this tutorial, remember, there are various stages of the pose; be where you're comfortable. You might put your knees on the floor today, but a month from now, as you build strength, that might change.
The second tutorial progresses into King Pigeon. This is a deep backbend and hip opener that should only be done if you're warm and you're body's stretched. It may not happen the first time you try it. Enjoy the process, open your heart, and find the beauty in the adventure.
I cannot stress it enough, honor and respect your body. If something doesn't feel good, if something hurts, don't do it. I love the thought "your practice, your pose".
If there's a pose you'd like to know more about, or even how to work into a pose, comment below and you never know what might show up!
