per·fec·tion
the condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects
As I embark on creating a video library and envisioning what Laura Crosson Yoga will look like, I've struggled with the idea of perfection. Should the videos I create be perfect? In my ideal world, every "i" would be dotted and every "t" crossed. The lighting, sound, and editing would be precise. I'm the girl who has to repaint one nail 10 times so it will be absolutely perfect!
However, when it comes to yoga, I'm learning I have a very different idea about "perfect". I believe yoga is a personal experience, that is practice-not perfect. Every time you step on your mat, you'll most likely lose your balance, forget to breath, and maybe even fall asleep!
Take my picture of wheel pose above. It is definitely not perfect. My hands aren't under my shoulders, I don't have enough space in my chest and thoracic spine, and my knees are splaying out to the sides. BUT, I made it to my mat that day and my body moved, wether perfectly or not, it moved.
Therefore, I want my video sessions to reflect that. I'm not perfect: I mess up my words, I forget where I am, I make bad jokes (you know it's bad when you laugh at your own jokes). Don't believe me? Just watch my first video, HERE! As you practice yoga with me, I hope you realize that you DO NOT have to be perfect. Yoga is for EVERYbody at any stage in their practice on their good days and bad days. It is my hope that we will embrace our imperfections and grow from them together, that we won't put unnecessary pressure on ourselves, and that we'll enjoy the journey.
Namaste my friends!
