Drishti, what in the world does this crazy Sanskrit word even mean? This beautiful, mysterious word refers to a specific point to turn your gaze toward in order to focus your attention. What practical advice for asana (physical yoga) practice. This is readily demonstrated as we practice standing balance poses. If we don’t have a focal point as we enter standing balance we’re doomed to fail before we even start. This resonates for me beyond our practice on the mat. If our life is lacking vision or focus, how off balance do we become? Sometimes, life seems to spin out of control and we fall, after desperately trying to catch ourselves. For me, the drishti for my life is my faith and focus on Christ. When I’m disciplined with prayer and scripture reading, and walking closely with Christ, my life stays balanced and I’m better able to handle the challenges when they come. However, when I’m spiritually unfocused and unguided, I fall out of balance more easily. As you practice standing balance with a physical, tangible drishti, I invite you to find ways to bring that same attention and vision to your live off the mat. Namaste friends!
